Document certification involves certifying a copy of a document as being a true, complete and up-to-date copy of the original record at a given date. A certified copy includes a written statement which and signature and date of the certifying person. Document certification requires the presence of the original document to be carried out. Since certification is only valid for a limited time, it is often requested around the time of use for these documents, and not in advance.
Document notarisation is the act of verifying the copy, identity or signature of the signatory regarding the original photographic identity documents. It is conducted by a Notary Public, who is a witness at the time of signing. A notarised document also includes the Notary Public’s stamp or seal.
Document apostilisation is the legalisation of documents. An apostille authenticates the seals and signatures of officials on public records so that they can be recognised in foreign countries that are members of the 1961 Hague Convention Treaty. Legalisation procedure is used where the apostille system has not been adopted (e.g. Canada, China).
